Cilag AG’s environmental impact is guided and influenced by various schemes. The most important are:

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System:

The environmental impact is measured, assessed and improved using this system. Recognised auditors check the system regularly and decide whether it meets certification requirements. Cilag AG has been ISO-certificated since 2000.

MAARS Management Awareness and Action Review System:

This is a Johnson & Johnson system for the identification and early elimination of environmental, health and safety risks. It is also used to proactively meet legal (and future legal) requirements. MAARS is periodically checked by a team of external auditors.

HEALTHY PLANET GOALS 2010:

The goals of “Healthy Planet 2010” are an expression of our efforts to set high environmental standards at our sites. In order to do this, we need innovative solutions that benefit both the environment and us.Some of the environmental targets we are aiming to meet in the period 2006-2010 are listed below:

1. Energy

Goal for 2010: 7% overall reduction of CO2 emissions for stationary sources compared to 1990. (Goal by 2020: 30% overall reduction of CO2 emissions for stationary sources compared to 1990).

2. Waste

Goal for 2010: 10% overall reduction in hazardous and solid waste

3. Water

Goal for 2010: 10% overall reduction in water consumption

4. Responsible products

Goal for 2010: Design for Environment: research and development of each new product to minimise possible environmental impact. Critical substances identified and timescales for elimination/substitution met.

5. Further training

Goal for 2010: further environmental training to be offered annually to all staff. Business management to support and advance the further environmental training of staff.

6. Biodiversity

Goal for 2010: 100% of sites to have an ecological protection programme
